Tertullian is the one who rarely focuses on associating Christianity with philosophy. He states that Christianity cannot be explained through philosophy, as philosophy does not include all the ideas and thoughts presented by Christianity. He further claims that the views of philosophers and heretics, do not explain Christianity, rather they distort the original idea about Christianity. The views of Tertullian seem to be clearly influenced by the word of Bible, instead of any philosophical ideas. He stated that “We should then never be required to try our strength in contests about the soul with philosophers, those patriarchs of heretics, as they may be fairly called. He says that, “the apostle, so far back as his own time, foresaw, indeed, that philosophy would do violent injury to the truth” (Tertullian 87). He stated that different philosophical schools are influenced by their masters and reflect their characteristics.

Some of them believe in the immortality of the soul, while other rejects the idea of soul being immortal. Tertullian explains that one school of the philosophy can be derived from various sources; therefore, the Greek culture was significantly attacked by him in terms of “immortality of God”. He believed that various schools of philosophy and these schools are influenced by the characteristics of their masters, whether they are from Plato, Zeno or Aristotle. Philosophy distorts or obscures the whole idea about truth, because for every philosophical idea, truth is different. It is the responsibility of the Christians to “clear away, both by shattering to pieces the arguments which are drawn from the principles of things—I mean those of the philosophers—and by opposing to them the maxims of heavenly wisdom—that is, such as are revealed by the Lord” (Tertullian 88).
