Amongst the few of the industrialized nations in the world, USA is the one which doesn’t have a global system for health care. There are many ways in which one could obtain health insurance in United States of America. Some people tend to purchase health insurance individually and some of them get the same by their employers. It is by the government that some part of the health insurance is rendered to the people. It has been reported by the US Census Bureau that in the year 2003, about 27% of the population was covered by the insurance based by government, 61% of the total population was covered under the employment based health insurance and there were a proportion of people (16%) who had to health insurance at all. The source of funding for the healthcare system of USA are many. There were only 3 chief source of funds till the recent past for the purpose of health care insurance. Money paid by the employers was the first source of money. In order to cover governmental programs, government used to transfer a part of the money. An individual purchase of health insurance was the third source of income.
The programs designed by government are for the individuals who belong to the category of low income and also the ones who are above the age of 65 years. It is only in the recent times that there has been a change in the source of funding. It is by the switch of the attitude to the healthcare that these changes are conditioned and the focus in on the side of the employers. There has been instances where it has been seen that a majority of the private companies tend to exclude the healthcare insurance from the social package which is provided by them to their workers (Long 2009). On the other hand, there are firms which do render the healthcare insurance for the workers but they withdraw the same from the retirees. It is because of the same that there have been a shortfall in the funding which is based on employment based plan.
The publicity plan encompasses of Medicaid, Medicare and the insurance program of State Children’s. The federal government funds the Medicare and on the other hand it is by the states that the Medicaid is funded by. Except Medicare, all the programs of the government are funded by the general taxes.
