The purpose of this report is to discuss a scientific field trip report based on the investigation of plant adaptations at the Australian National Botanical Gardens. The Mallee Shrublands Environment related plants and the plants of the Australian environment are both studied here. Plants have evolved over time. In research, it has been assumed that they were existent because of flooding in some areas when the climate of the earth was changing. The plants would have survived in the intermittent periods between the flooding and the drying and with time would have evolved better to colonize the land. In a way it was by means of natural selections and adaption that they migrated from an aquatic environment to a terrestrial environment. In the terrestrial environment, different landscapes might impose different necessities on the plant (Williams, 2000). The adaptions for the rainforest environment and the shrub lands environment are investigated here.

The two Australian landscapes that are being investigated are the Australian Rainforest environment and the Mallee Shrublands Environment. The Australian rainforest environment is the one observed in the National Botanical Gardens at Canberra. Subtropical, dry, warm and cool temperate forms of rainforests are found here. Most of the native Australian flora is found here in the National Botanic Gardens (Australian Rainforest Foundation ARF, 2016). The Mallee shrub lands are an area from the Roe Botanical district and are in the southern western part of Australia. This is a shrub land that has a semi-arid Mediterranean climate compared to the temperate climate of the Rainforest environment in Canberra. The reasons the Australian National Botanical gardens have been selected for the study are because the Botanical gardens have both varieties of plants supported in them. They have the plants of Mallee regions and also the plants from the Rainforest environment.
