Development is critical for every nation. The economic progress of nation is one significant indicator of the development of the nation. However, the economic progress is not the only development indicator. Development is in essence a multidimensional process where economic and social systems come into reorganization and reorientation under the moderating influence of macro-environmental factors such as the politics, institutions, international regulations and others (World Bank Group, 2012). Development for a country like India has to be holistic. It cannot be defined in terms of economic growth alone, it will need to consider radical changes in the institutional, social and administrative structures for the country. The report purpose of the analyse the development of India based on its many development variables, such as economics, human development, social indicators and more. The report will then critically analyse this collected data to make recommendations for India’s growth with the help of the Structural Development Theory, more specifically the Lewis Model under this development theory will be used.

The report aims to discuss the barriers to development which the country faces and by use of the Structural development theory makes unique recommendations for the country. The report aims to show how the chosen structural approach will be capable of solving current problems for the country. The report is limited in that, all variables of development and all barriers are not considered, only the most significantly reported ones are considered. The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in India showed a 1.70 percent expansion in the last quarter of 2015 but the GDP growth rate was shown to average record high and low in second quarter of 2009 and first quarter of 2009 respectively (Appendix 1). While there has been some instability here because of the 2009 data, the charts for Gross National Product in India is quite stable in the past years and showed an increased 56738.60 INR Billion in 2014 (Trading Economics, 2016).
