These relationships are analysed using the theories of realism, Marxism and liberalism. The theoretical constructs of these theories try to systematically explore the dynamic relationships between the nations. Realism and political economy can be defined under four tenets. It is colonialism, neo-colonialism, mercantilism and ethno-nationalism. These constructs are used for the development of capital markets, free trade and open economies. However, the criticism of this theory is that it can be nihilistic for certain nations. The aspects of colonialism seem to pervade the construction of these theories. There are certain gaps that are observed in this system (Gilpin, 2016). Mercantilism is a softened version of colonialism. Another theory had stemmed based on the liberalism theories. They are explored in the following.
Liberalism is found to be different from realism. It is used to lessen the value of the role of the powerful nations. It is a theory that is fundamentally based on the democratic political structure. The democratic principles of human rights and property rights are seen in the development of the capital trade. The role of the economic integration plays an important factor in the construction of the society. This is done to bring more integration in the society (Gilpin, 2016). In the actual implementation process it has been found that in some cases, there are more non-state actors who try to exploit the developing or emerging nations. There is an innate increase in the slave labour laws. These lead to the increase in the strategy of exploitation. As an alternative to these theories, there is the theory of Marxism that exists in the society.
Marxist argument to the theory of capitalism is that the proletariat class would revolt for its poverty levels. It argues that these theories of capitalism would lead to unequal growth in the society. According to Marxist theory, the capitalism has seeds for its own destruction. The theories of Marxism focus on the growth of all the people in the society (Gilpin, 2016). The criticism for this theory is that the people would again start to exploit the works of the other members in the society. This theory would work in ideal conditions. This is not the reality in many instances.
This shows that no theory is perfect and there can be flaws in implementation of the theories.
From this, it can be alluded that each of these theories has tried to ensure that there is growth in the society and prosperity for all. However, each one of these theories fails in the implementation. These are based on the dynamic nature of the events. It is up to the leaders to construct a theory that would enable growth for all the sectors in the society. This is an arduous task.
