The Japanese consider humour as absurd and unusual which is quite contrary to how it is accepted in the rest of the world. However, in reality it is not totally absent and laughter and wit is frequently observed. Nevertheless it is not necessary to understand the fragile puns of the Japanese language so as to understand their humour and comedy. Humour may be inconsistent in nature with each country having its own set of rules and logic. The aim of this dissertation is limited to the study of why Osaka Warai or the Humour Culture has been so popular in Japan. The example of the Yosimoto Creative Agency has been taken to understand the culture in depth and how it has evolved over time. The boom of comedy or Owaria is considered as a recent phenomenon in Japan and there is a lot to it other than just viewing it through a social canvas. It is quite difficult and vague to establish the boundaries of any reform connected to the culture of that nation but the evidence that existed on the matter that humour had progressed by the time the Manzai boomed, i.e. in and around the 80s, is quite substantial. However the reality with it is that the significance of humour prior to the Second World War and after it in Japan can be distinctly observed.

They are considered to be the topmost television entertainers of the Japanese nation and are respected highly for their craft and wit. Youngsters today are more than before interested in becoming professional comedians (Yamanaka, pp. 1-17).
