I believe I would be an asset to the engineering classroom just as my University fellow mates would be to me. I come from a conservative Chinese background where we are used to doing things formally and with tradition and norms taking center place. My culture has its pros and cons. In many ways, I have been able to follow protocol to the word because of my upbringing, and in some situations it has hindered me from risk taking behavior. I believe that a balance is needed between both. As a future industrial engineer, I would not expect myself to go and propose changes to be implemented rapidly or dynamically embracing many risks, I would probably go about in a very carefully studied and balanced way. I believe my culture offers the proper restrain that is needed to follow rules, and at the same time focus on innovation and out of thinking in a way that does not disrupt existing structure. I believe this defines me, and this is a strength that I can bring to the engineering classroom. With respect to my educational goals, I understand that in the global industrial engineering perspective, it is necessary to encourage and embrace diversity as well. I believe that learning in this educational institution will bring me this awareness of diversity.

I also believe that education wise, I would get better exposure to current practices in the industry with this University.The patterns of understanding that a person has is formed in their early childhood years, how one studies in the early childhood forms most of their interests and problem solving patterns for the future and I firmly believe that. In my case, I understand how I solve issues for the future and how I pursue interests will be dependent on my early education and planning. From my early years, I have been interested in understanding the application style of elements. And this is why, till date I try to understand how any simple invention could have better applications.
