India has a prosperous cultural legacy and diversity. It has multiple languages, multiple religions and multiple castes that divide the society yet unite the nation with certain common cultural values.However, the technological development and industrialization has caused changes in the psychological mindset of the people and given rise to an urban society where the modern youth rejects the traditional values and adopts the western culture to be a part of international society. Thus, modernization has led to globalization.Although globalization was an attempt to bring about the integration in the economic affairs to develop an interdependent relationship amongst the countries (Choy, 2006), but the effect is not only restricted to the economic changes but it has influenced the social and cultural aspects of the developing nations as well. It involves not only the exchange of technology but also the cultural values and social lifestyle of the inhabitants. It has several advantages like rapid industrialization, higher flow of investment, exposure to better technology and more production. However, every coin has two sides. Therefore, there are also some side effects of globalization, like harmful effect on domestic industry. As in Air Canada, the technological advancements have reduced the requirement for manpower resulting in job layoffs.

The case study points towards the two conflicting ideologies prevalent in today’s society in the Asian countries like India. There are people mostly the older generation, which are still rooted in their traditional values and cultures and believe in their rules and regulations. On the other hand, the young generation who has been exposed to industrialization and globalization tends to reject these old values and adopt western culture and demand more freedom in their life. Indian traditional values believe in joint family system where kids stay with their parents and take the responsibility of the family. However, the modern society promotes nuclear family system where children demand to stay away from parents and accept no interference in their lives. Modern society even provides more freedom to women where they are allowed to move out of their home be independent and enjoy their life to the fullest. The traditional Indian values believe in love but it does not agree to the concept of dating and live in relationships which are the components of western culture. Thus the society in the midst of complication where the young Indian tends to remain rooted in their traditional values, but the effect of globalization and the urge to grow economically and improve their social status they tend to adopt the western culture.
