The study published by Hanckel and Morris (2014) examines the life of young queer people living in Australia and the way online communities are helping them engage in communication with others as a way of addressing the general marginalization and oppression. The study draws its conclusion from examining different online forums and also by help of personal detailed interviews with 14 young queer participants. Various communication platforms on the internet, more particularly on the social networking websites and other youth-focused discussion websites are offering an alternate platform for discussion among the young people. The online forum communities provide a secure way of engaging in conversation while reducing various barriers which one might find difficult to deal with in a formal setting like discussing in an open group, or the fear of possibly being judged by others on basis of age, sexual orientation, disability and ethnicity (FYA Unlimited Potential, 2016). Engaging in communication on the internet actually involves young people discussing own ideas and experiences in networks that they are good at developing.

By sharing their experiences and issues on these online networks, young queer people get familiar with the present issues, check the news, and gather different representations of issues. The online forums and communities also provide a good way for the young people to find support by finding similar people (more particularly important for the LGBT communities). Young people coming from a diverse collection of backgrounds and cultures form a network online serve the purpose of discussing issues, accessing and providing support, and forming a community. In this area, internet technology has proved to be very powerful and effective in developing engaging capacity among the young people and perceiving the world in a positive manner. When used properly, the implementation of social media approaches have helped the students and young people in connecting more effectively with the community. Such practices increase their sense of belonging for the community and also encourage the young people to participate actively in social programs and other tasks.
