My interest in the MFA Visual Arts program stems from two reasons, my interests in the studies related to movie making and also my interest in representing my culture through movie making. The above interests, combined with my motivation to learn Visual arts from an elite university made me apply to York University. Representing culture and cultural artefacts through artistic means was how I started getting a basic understanding on the meaning of ‘representations’. Representation plays a major role in human understanding of culture. How I represent myself or things is how people around me will perceive me. I want to capture my culture and present it in ways that make viewers connect with our culture. This is a world where news and events are highly publicized and cultures are seen to be presented through an international frame. My interest to represent my culture stems from the same reasons. I want to publicize my culture and I want to do it more professionally. My training with York University will definitely help me a lot. Conducting my training and education in an expert institution will be very helpful to me.

The MFA Visual Arts program draws me towards achieving this as this is a five term program where both theoretical enquiry and practical support is extended for students. I like the way the website of York University highlights that their teaching emphasis is not derived from one medium. This connects very strongly with my own situation. I started painting first and that was the interest which drove me towards visual arts studies and movie making. So the use of different mediums to understand Visual Arts would be very helpful for me. With York University, we would be able to handle more than just aspects of movie making from mainstream expectations. This is exactly what I want to be trained in. I want to make my niche in the film making circles. However, I want to make sure that I am not only working towards my monetary compensations. Receiving a holistic education will help me and I definitely believe that the York University would be a great mentor in this aspect.
