An example of Walmart can be considered to understand the importance of buyer-supplier power and buyer-supplier exchange outcome to the management. Walmart has developed a strategic partnership with its preferred suppliers in order to involve them in the processes of organization for valued inputs and contribution. This strategic partnership enables the organizations to further intervene in the processes of suppliers to improve their way of function and technological integrations that can enable the seamless functioning of the association.
The example of Walmart is taken to emphasize that the strategic partnership of buyer-supplier makes this association an exclusive one (Tanskanen, 2015). Therefore, this exclusivity provides benefits to the management of organization. The benefits from supplier can be offering of the supplies required at a reduced price than the cost presented to the other organizations of similar nature. Due to this buyer-supplier power, the organization of Walmart is able to obtain the competitive edge as it can offer the same products available elsewhere at a lower cost on a regular basis. Furthermore, the extent to which the buyer-supplier power is important can be realized from the exchange outcomes since the strategic suppliers of Walmart functions on the inventory system that is linked with the system of Walmart (Wang et al., 2014). This technological link informs the suppliers about the products that are sold by the organization in real time due to which the supplier can arrange the products that will be required in the near future. This is performed on the basis of the reducing availability of items and replenish the inventory just in time when more customers need the same product. It is to consider that without the strong and close ties of the buyer and supplier, this will not be possible since the buyer would be required to determine the products that are reducing in inventory and then they will need to place the order. However, this latency and gap in the supply chain process at times poses delay in meeting the needs of the customers. Primary reasons entails unavailability of product which in turn affects the customer loyalty as the customer will need to find another business that can offer the same product at the given time.
