In Montreal, the significant growth in all the manufacturing and service sector indicates that people consider this place to be a valuable asset. This has also lead to rise in pollution and the people are found to have a general lower quality of life due to high increase in the traffic. To consider the impact of the particular traffic it is important to consider the travel delay and the travel capacity (Litman, & Laube,2002).. There must be consideration of the healthy traffic that is required for the growth of the city. However, once the threshold limit is reached it would be detrimental to the economy of the place (de Palma, & Lindsey, 2002).

The high traffic is proving to be detrimental to Montreal. There is an $1.7 billion loss owing to the increase in commuter traffic. There is a general decline in the quality of life. If the service trucks and supplier trucks are congested there will be increase in the gasoline prices. These would invariably increase the cost of commodities. Subsequent to which there would be increase in the GDP of the place. Hence the city has been looking for alternative modes of transit. In this the car sharing rides, public transits are being emphasized by the government. Toll roads are also suggested for areas such as the Champlain Bridge (Ison, & Rye, 2008). These would reduce the fuel costs and time delay. The government is also planning to set up special lanes for the buses and other modes of transport.
