The location that will be used is the area near the sculpture ‘Waiting’. The sculpture was created by artist Seward Johnson and was situated in Australia Square of central Sydney.The first photograph was taken during noon and this was a time where shadows of sculptures were recorded in the picture. Here a businessman is seen to be reading a newspaper sitting on a bench. The bench resembles a bench like setting that is more popularly found in a park. In the first photograph, the colour is brighter, the location sounds are lesser. However, when the same location was visited in the evening (around 5pm), the place is much louder. The colour is also more sombre. The second photograph which is more sombre in mood, would be used to show how the businessman never has time to relax, even as they sit down for a moment constantly checking the newspaper as they want to know current happenings. The first photograph which is brighter would be used at the transition point in the movie making, showing that the businessman can keep balance when they can relax and at the same time they can concentrate on their work. My script idea comes from viewing the movie ‘Dead Poets Society’ and reading up on the quotes on the movie. The movie ‘Dead Poets Society’ is one in which the teachings and the guidance of one good teacher helps students to look at life in a different way.
Robin Williams is the protagonist in the movie. The students in the academy are trained in a certain way. They are not trained to not have liberal attitudes in choosing their career. In fact, it is the parents that get to choose what the career of the students are. Robin Williams brings a fresh and radical ideology to the students. He tells them they can be whatever they want to be and they must seize the moment, ‘carpe diem’. I believe this is something that people need in this life. They can be anything they want to be. In my idea I am not discussing about how people can be anything they want to be in their career or in achieving the ambition. The idea is to show that people can be anything they want to be with respect to their daily life. Most time people catch up with everyday work feel they are stuck in the fast paced world. They are not able to make decisions where they can allocate time and space for normal activities that would relax them. Using the ‘carpe diem’ that Robin Williams states in the movie, people would be asked to seize the day and use it to relax and make their life a little less stressful than usual.
